The Plaice are characterized by their very flat and roughly diamond shaped body. Commonly called Flatfish. When they lie on the bottom their smooth, brown skin form a perfect camouflage that changes according to the bottom. The eyes, which are both situated on the upper side, (the right side of the body) can perfectly well detect a predator from all directions. The lateral line is strait and curves slightly above the pectoral fin. There are long rays of fins along both sides of the body from the head to the tail fin.
