Description
The Mallard is the most common duck. The body is plump in shape with large flat feet and a wide flat bill (beak).
Color
The breeding male has an unmistakable bottle-green head, white collar, brown chest with a gray body. The bill and feet are yellow/orange. The female Mallard’s color is light patterned brown. Both the female and male have distinct purple speculum edged with white, prominent in flight or at rest.
